Central alpha agonists - clonidine, methyldopa, guanfacine - lower blood pressure from inside the brain rather than at the heart or the vessels. That gives them an unusual profile for an active person: the engine of performance is largely untouched, but the driver is sedated. And they carry one hazard that has nothing to do with training and everything to do with a missed dose.
