What the research does support is narrower and more useful: structured physical activity, particularly the vigorous kind, reliably reduces repetitive behaviours and improves motor and social skills in autistic children and adolescents, and a handful of small dietary trials show modest effects on core symptoms that are worth knowing about and worth treating with caution.
