Exercise for Anxiety: A Real but Modest Treatment - Why Harder Sessions Work Better, and Where the Diet Claims Stand

Anxiety is the most common mental-health condition, and exercise is the most widely recommended non-drug remedy for it. The recommendation is right, but its confidence often outruns its evidence. Pooled across the randomised trials, aerobic exercise does reduce clinical anxiety, the effect is moderate rather than dramatic, and - counter to the gentle-walk stereotype - the harder programmes worked better than the easier ones. Around that core sits a growing and much thinner literature on food, which is interesting, plausible and, for now, mostly unproven.
