Anyone who has spent time in a serious gym knows the conversation happens, and knows it is usually conducted in half-truths. One side insists the drugs do nothing that hard work cannot, which is false and which destroys the credibility of everything else that side says. The other side treats the risks as an acceptable rounding error, which is also false. The useful position is the accurate one: anabolic-androgenic steroids do what users hope they will do, and the reasons people take them are more comprehensible than moralising allows - and the full cost arrives later, unevenly, and is systematically underestimated at the point of decision.
