Carnitine shuttles fatty acids into mitochondria, which is why it has been marketed as a fat-burner for forty years. Its second life is as a recovery aid: less soreness, lower muscle-damage markers. Both claims have a mechanism. Only one has a measured effect worth describing, and even that one rests on a small and partly manufacturer-funded evidence base.
