Sport psychology has two research traditions that often talk past each other. One measures variables across groups of athletes and tests whether relationships hold; the other interviews and observes individuals to understand meaning and context. Coaches read both, usually without a clear sense of what each kind of study is entitled to claim. That is worth fixing.
