Targeting the Lower Chest: Flat and Decline Pressing Load the Sternal Fibres, Incline Switches Them Off (SMD 1.80 Across 23 Studies) - and Nobody Has Yet Measured the Growth

The lower chest is the part of the pectoralis major that gives the muscle its shelf-like underline, and it is the part lifters most often say they cannot reach. The anatomy makes the question fair: the muscle has a clavicular head running from the collarbone and a larger sternocostal portion fanning from the breastbone and ribs, and the lower fibres of that portion pull the arm down and across the body. Whether a decline bench or a dip actually shifts work onto those fibres has now been measured directly.
