The shoulder mobility test is the reach-behind-the-back check most people have seen: one hand comes over the shoulder, the other up the back, and the gap between the fists is measured. In the Functional Movement Screen it is formalised with fists rather than fingers, a hand-length ruler and a pain clearing test. It is quick, reliable and easy to over-interpret.
