The Grant Study and the Glueck Study are the two arms of the Harvard Study of Adult Development, which began following young men in the late 1930s and is still following their descendants. They are the longest prospective studies of adult life ever run, and they are quoted constantly for one headline: relationships, not cholesterol or income, predict who ages well. The headline is roughly right, but the numbers behind it are worth seeing, and the cohort's findings have since been tested against millions of people.
