The Prone Press-up: Testing Spinal Extension and What It Says About the Abdominals

The prone press-up looks like a yoga cobra: lie face down, hands under the shoulders, and push the upper body up while the pelvis stays on the floor. In testing it is used as a passive spinal extension measure and, by extension, as a check on how much the front of the trunk will lengthen. Both uses deserve a closer look.
