Watch a set of cable curls and the elbows rarely stay put. As the weight rises the upper arms drift forward and the shoulders start to lift the load. It looks like cheating, and sometimes it is, but the main reason is anatomical: the muscle being trained pulls on the shoulder as well as the elbow.
