Skinfold Calculators: Why the Formula Matters as Much as the Callipers

A skinfold calculator looks like a single measurement, but it is really three things stacked together: a set of calliper readings, an equation that turns them into an estimated body density, and a second equation that turns density into a body-fat percentage. Each step was fitted to a particular group of people. Use it on someone who does not resemble that group and the error can be larger than the change you are trying to track.
