An agility circuit strings together short locomotor drills, back pedal, side shuffle, carioca, high knees, butt kicks, skipping, bear crawl, crab walk and a sprint with a turn, into a conditioning session that trains footwork and fitness at the same time. The drills are old, the coaching cues are consistent, and until recently the question of whether such circuits actually make an athlete quicker to change direction had been answered mostly by tradition. Two syntheses now answer it with numbers.
